Let's Talk on Zoom: Christianity, Repentance and the Transatlantic Slave Trade
An invitation to a zoom mini-lecture and discussion
Hello friends,
Thank you for tracking with the Black British History Month series this month, and for generously supporting my work. I have really enjoyed sharing all that I am learning with all of you, and I hope you’re enjoying it, too.
Those of you who know me, or have engaged with me online know that one of my particular interests is the intersection between history and faith. Particularly as a Black Christian woman, now living in the US, I am deeply troubled by the weaponization of history against minorities. I am equally troubled by efforts to rewrite history and Christianity, to exclude our experiences and contributions.
I believe that knowing is of deep importance to our faith and witness. Knowing Scripture and Truth, but also knowing the realities of the broken world we traverse until God’s Kingdom comes. As such, I would like to offer an exclusive live mini-lecture and discussion over Zoom, for us to learn about the intersection of Christianity and the Transatlantic Slave Trade- examining how the Church supported it, opposed it, and examining the repentance narrative seen in the life of hymn writer John Newton.
